This week, I’m playing in the pit orchestra at Norris for their musical “Fiddler on the Roof.” I am the fiddler. I even get some stage time, standing on a chair behind the upper level of the house (so it kind of looks like I’m on the roof). I’m a little bit scared that I will fall off and either break my arm or crush my violin, but there haven’t been any tradgedies yet.
When I student taught at Norris in 2005, I worked with students in 6th grade and also 8th-12th grade. Now, the kids who were in 6th grade are FRESHMEN. And the kids who were freshmen are SENIORS. This is unreal! Everyone’s all grown up! It’s a lot easier to handle the aging when you see the kids every day, but when you see these big high school kids walking around and remember the good times you had teaching their 8th grade class, it’s more scary. Especially because I don’t feel like *I’ve* aged that much.
The students are all great, though. A lot of them have come up and said hello or hugged me (♥).
I like Norris.
And strangely, this makes me miss my Auburn kids, too.
