Peek-a-boo is also a popular game among this crowd

Since August, I’ve been babysitting once a month for my church’s “Mom-to-Mom” group. Allison and I have been assigned to the baby room (infant – 18 months), and it’s been a lot of fun to spend time with her and with the little ones. We generally have between four and six babies, so it’s usually not too crazy (although last time was epic – almost all of our kids were fussy, high-maintenance, or wailing at the top of their lungs – but that’s a different story).

A couple of months ago, Allison was sitting in a rocking chair playing “Ride a little pony” with Little Kid #1. I was sitting on the floor playing with some other kids, and Allison and I both noticed Little Kid #2 sitting at her feet, glued to the action in the rocking chair. #2 watched in anticipation and giggled when Allison’s pony tripped and #1 almost fell down over and over. We wondered if #2 was patiently waiting his turn, but Allison when invited him to sit on her lap, he wasn’t interested. Watching #1 play “Ride a little pony” was better than TV. We laughed and laughed over how easily #2 was entertained.

The funny thing is… now that I think back on this, I was doing the *exact same thing* that #2 was doing. I was just watching and giggling as Allison played with #1. I guess it doesn’t take much to entertain me, either. I often wonder what’s going on in the thoughts of these little people, but it’s probably not very different from what we’re thinking.
