Fall into the… you know.

I thought the Gap was a store where only wealthy, pretty, snobby people shopped.  This opinion was shaping my attitude toward the store for more than 10 years.  Until today.

(Let me back up…)

This year for Christmas, I received a very generous gift card to the Gap.

(Now that you’re up to speed…)

I decided to try to spend my Gap gift card today, and I was pleasantly surprised.  There was a wide selection of clothing, and some of it was very affordable.  The clearance racks, though, are where it’s at.  Great prices on some of the stuff there.  I bought a sweater from the clearance section, and I still have money left on the gift card.

Well, this experience has thrown my preconceived notions for a loop.  What’s next, Banana Republic?

Oh yes, they have good sales. I almost never buy anything full price no matter where I go. Banana’s sale rack has a lot to offer too. It is one of my favorite stores.

I’m so sad you missed the crazy after-Christmas sweater sales of Gap from 2000-2004. In recent years Gap has, in my opinion, sucked it up royally so I wouldn’t say that you missed much. After I got a Gap sweater for Christmas 2006 that promptly shed worse than St. Bernard, I said “THAT IS IT,” and swore off Gap for a year. I kept my promise and returned this past Christmas to a pleasant surprise to find the good-quality sweaters they used to have. I’ll echo Karen in that Banana does have some great sales, though sometimes you look at a shirt marked at $39.99 clearance and think “sale? What sale? Where?” You just have to do some digging.

Now if only we could get an Ann Taylor Loft. I think their clearance racks beat Banana’s.
