Someday…

…I’ll be able to play violin like Alison Krauss. She’s basically my hero. She’s also my co-worker Krissy’s hero. Krissy was watching this video today in the office (more like she had it on as background music as she worked), and we were both sitting there wishing we were Alison. Such a nice voice! Such a talented instrumentalist!

“Country” has never really been my favorite type of music. In fact, I used to actively dislike it. It’s still not my favorite, but I’ve really been drawn to some of its sub-genres recently, especially bluegrass. Fiddle-playing has really appealed to me for a while now, and getting more comfortable with playing in that style is one of my goals for 2008.

This next video is from the same performance as the video I linked to above. Alison Krauss and Union Station doing what they do best. They also had a guest artist playing with them - Sierra Hull on mandolin, who was in 6th grade at the time of this performance (6th grade!!).

I hope you have heard and/or seen Nickel Creek. They are amazing, and their violin player is excellent as well.

Oh, yeah. Nickel Creek is also one of my favorites. I really dig NC’s forward-thinking chord progressions. They don’t just recycle stuff we’ve heard before.
